A Time for Every Roof Installation

Ask an Orange County roofer how long a roof installation takes, and this professional will respond – “that depends on the roof.” The fact is, different materials require different installation times.

The difference between asphalt and metal roofing illustrates this point perfectly. Generally, conventional asphalt roofing can be installed in a couple of days, give or take. Metal, on the hand, often requires a week or more for job completion. It needs more time because of the comparative difficulty involved -- the installation of metal roofing is a relatively involved process.

Given the relative difficulty of working with metal, Orange County roofers employ considerably more skill when installing this type than they do with other materials. Let’s start with cutting ability. Always a crucial skill, its importance triples when metal is the material of choice. To ensure a flawless fit, roofers must cut metal sheets into precise panels that eventually form the roof’s surface layer. When properly cut, the panels conform to exact specifications. As part of the process, roofers also fold the panels in designated places. This cut and fold procedure is far more exacting and time-consuming than anything required for asphalt shingles.

Consider also the relatively slipperiness of a metal roof. For the crew of an Orange County roofing company, maneuvering across metal is far more challenging than it is on asphalt shingles -- particularly if the material has been moistened by morning dew. Greater care must be exercised. Invariably, the increased carefulness stretches the time required to complete a job.

Understandably, people contemplating a new roof may wonder about project duration. Don’t worry. It’s simple to get an estimate. Just ask a local provider. You may, for instance, reside in Irvine. OK, just ask an Irvine roofer for an estimate. It’s the best way to be accurately informed, quickly and easily.

If you have questions about roof installation times, Luke Roofing can help. A long-established Orange County roofer, we provide prompt, reliable expertise for every residential roofing and commercial roofing need. A Plus and Minus View of Three-Tab Shingles

Often, an Orange County roofer will be called into action to install new shingles. The possibilities, of course, are virtually limitless, with new types entering the picture all the time. Naturally, the characteristics of roofing materials vary from shingle to shingle. Choice depends on needs, goals, and budgets. Among the many excellent choices currently in vogue are the 3-tab asphalt shingles. As its name implies, a 3-tab asphalt shingle consists of three evenly-spaced asphalt tabs. This even spacing gives them a very consistent, well-ordered appearance.

As with any roofing component, the popular 3-tabber has both advantages and disadvantages. First on the plus side is their lower expense. Any time an Orange County roofing company installs these shingles, you can expect to pay less than you would for many other types. Also contributing to their lower cost is the ease with which they can be fixed if damaged. An Orange County roofer summonsed to repair these will be spending a relatively short amount of time on the job. And that translates to a lower overall expense tab.

On the minus side, 3-tab asphalt shingles are not exactly bastions of strength. In severe weather, including high winds and heavy rains, this type probably won’t hold up as well as other choices. If you own a home in a city such as Newport Beach, you probably aren’t particularly concerned about inclement weather conditions. Nevertheless, before you select 3-tab asphalt shingles for your rooftop, it’s advisable to consult a Newport Beach roofer to determine if you’re making the optimum choice. As in most other matters, it’s best to be prepared well ahead of time.

If you have questions about three-tab shingles, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. A long-established Orange County roofer, we provide prompt, reliable expertise for every residential roofing and commercial roofing need. No matter where you live in OC, you can count on Luke Roofing for the most efficient, reliable roofing solutions.

Look Closely Before Choosing an Orange County Roofer

There may not be a ‘get-to-know your roofer week’ (not yet). Nevertheless, a certain familiarity with the track record and character of a prospective Orange County roofer is crucial. This means get to know all you can about the qualifications of this dedicated professional.

The path to knowledge here is something we do or have done at some point – research. Yes, homeowners on the hunt for a person capable of installing or repairing their beloved roof should probe all available informational sources. Barring an uncanny ability to foretell the future, such research is the best way to gauge the reliability of a roofing candidate.

Homeowners can avail themselves of numerous informational resources. Consider, for instance, the current favorite of people everywhere – the online review. Many an Orange County roofing company will post glowing reviews on their website, and satisfied customers will do the same on popular zones such as Yelp.

The counterpart to these reviews is the testimonial, which often may be found shouting good and loud on a provider’s website. Homeowners also may step outside the digital domain and go directly to local business-monitoring organizations and bureaus for company-related data. Possible grievances and other revealing insights are recorded at these facilities and are readily available to the curious.

Another key qualifier is the existence of an actual office or other physical structure housing the roofer’s business. Whatever you do, don’t rely on a P.O. box to prove legitimacy. Confirm the company’s physical location, even if you must take time out of your day to drop by for a look-see. This is easy to do. Perhaps you live in a coastal city such as Laguna Beach. Once you’re interested in a roofing company, visit the facility of this Laguna Beach roofer at your convenience. It won’t take long. And it will help ensure you make a safe and reliable choice.

If you have questions about selecting a roofer, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. A long-established Orange County roofer, we provide prompt, reliable expertise for every residential roofing and commercial roofing need. No matter where you live in OC, you can count on Luke Roofing for the most efficient, reliable roofing solutions.

Clearing Up the Roofing Rumors

When rumors spread, they spread fast. This fact of life certainly holds true in the realm of roofing. Because of the persistent myths, homeowners sometimes make uniformed decisions regarding their rooftops. Occasionally, an Orange County roofer must be summonsed to remedy the results of their misguided actions. A far better policy would be to separate fact from fiction as quickly as possible, thereby reducing the possibility of a misstep – a sometimes expensive misstep. Thus, to set things right once and for all, here are several roofing rumors that homeowners should disregard without hesitation.

The Eternal Roof is perhaps the most common of roofing rumors. Many people mistakenly believe that roofs will last indefinitely. Nothing more need be done once those sturdy shingles are strategically positioned atop the happy home -- particularly when said roof is composed of the world’s most durable shingles or tiles. Nothing could be further from the truth. Roofs do wear out. And sooner or later, you’ll require the intervention of a qualified Orange County roofing company to remedy the problem. Those who count on luck also can count on bothersome leaks sooner or later.

Homeowners also fret about the time supposedly needed to repair or replace a roof. In their minds, endless weeks are required for job completion. This is a pure myth. While a certain amount of time will be needed to repair or replace, a qualified professional can expedite the process with little trouble – especially in a warm climate generally free from weather interference. You may, for example, reside in a sunny community such as Laguna Beach. Should you need roof servicing, a qualified Laguna Beach roofer can complete the assignment with incredible efficiency. You can count on it.

If you have questions about roofing, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. A long-established Orange County roofer, we provide prompt, reliable expertise for every residential roofing and commercial roofing need. No matter where you live in OC, you can count on Luke Roofing for the most efficient, reliable roofing solutions.

Simple Guide to Maintaining a Slate Roof

A qualified Orange County roofer knows the territory and can install a variety of roofing types. Among the current possibilities is the slate shingle. This material has a special appeal to certain Orange County homeowners. A big part of the attraction is its appearance. For fans of the material, slate is the epitome of aesthetic appeal. And not only for a certain kind of home. The material seems to fit a variety of residential styles. Additionally, slate is known for strength and durability. But remember – it isn’t invulnerable. Despite the material’s inherent strength, homeowners must take precautions. Preventative maintenance is the best means of ensuring slate’s acclaimed performance and durability.

If Slate is So Strong, Why Maintain It?

Homeowners might wonder why there’s a need to maintain slate shingles. After all, the material has been known to last beyond a century in some cases. But conditions vary, especially from season to season. And the changed conditions can impact slate in a most negative way, as it would any other roofing material. Basically, it’s best to be sure. Therefore, homeowners will benefit from a routine inspection conducted by a qualified Orange County roofing company. During this look-see, the inspectors may discover shingle problems or potential problems. Naturally, repairs may be needed. But don’t worry. With proper maintenance, slate shingles likely will provide many years of outstanding performance.

Slate is Everywhere

Slate roofs may be found in virtually any Orange County community, including San Clemente. If your San Clemente home has a slate roof, don’t leave yourself vulnerable to roof surprises. Enlist the services of a San Clemente roofer to inspect your shingles. Should the professionals discover serious issues, they’ll have plenty of time to implement early solutions. As is true in many instances, advanced preparation is the best course.

If you have questions about maintaining slate shingles, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. How Trees Can Impact Your Roof

Trees do more than beautify your yard and bear fruit; they also protect your roof. The greatest form of protection comes from the shade provided by tree foliage. Shade is a big plus. Many an Orange County roofing company must repair damage caused by excessive sunlight. Over time, solar illumination deteriorates shingles and leaves them vulnerable to leaking. It also leaves your wallet vulnerable to hefty roof repair bills. Shade provided by tree limbs restricts the passage of sunlight, thereby minimizing solar wear and tear.

Be careful, however, not to allow the solution to become the problem. While tree shade supplies an important layer of rooftop protection, your beautiful birch also can be the source of damage. This is most evident in a clogged rain gutter. If close enough, falling twigs and leaves can land and accumulate in the gutter. Rain thereafter gets trapped in the channel and eventually overflows. Most will fall to the ground. But some could flow onto the roof, slip under the shingles, and cause roof beams to rot. Should this intrusion occur, the problem must be corrected by a qualified residential roofing contractor (or commercial roofing contractor if you’re operating a business).

Bear in mind, the problem is not the trees themselves – it’s overhanging tree limbs lingering above the roof. If large enough, those limbs even can puncture shingles, creating an opening for rain water. Subsequently, you’ll be calling a qualified Orange County roofing contractor to make major repairs.

Is there a solution available to homeowners and business owners? Absolutely -- Trim those tree limbs and periodically clean out rain gutters. These steps will minimize rain gutter debris and help protect your roof throughout the year. It’s that simple.

If you have questions about how trees impact your roof, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. Better Than a Bucket

In one sense, sloping roofs have it made. Because of their angled position, they allow water and other forms of moisture to run straight down their sides. Thus, water damage is minimized. Unfortunately, this form of water defense is not an option for the flat or slightly-sloped roof. The positioning of these roofs creates little opportunity for effective drainage. Instead of running off, water tends to puddle on the shingles. If you have one of these roofs, there is a solution. A reliable Orange County roofing company can address the deficiency by installing a built-up roof. Not addressing the issue leaves your home vulnerable to shingle deterioration and leaking caused by accumulated water.

A built-up roof is one that utilizes a layering system to prevent moisture accumulation and penetration. An Orange County roofing contractor will install it in four basic layers. Base sheets form the first layer. This is followed in succession by roofing felts, cap sheets, and a top layer of asphalt.

Built-up roofs often are used for business structures, so commercial roofers commonly are called upon to install them. Many homes, however, have flat or low-slope roofs; therefore, built-up roofs often prove beneficial to them, as well.

As previously stated, the major advantage of a built-up roof is its natural ability to prevent water damage and intrusion. But the benefits don’t stop with waterproofing. Because of its sturdy layering, a built-up roof also defends against the penetration of damaging ultra-violet rays. And busy homeowners certainly will appreciate the low-maintenance requirements of this type of roof. There just isn’t a lot to take care of once it’s in place.

If you have questions about built-up roofs, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. You're Covered

When a qualified Orange County roofer installs a new roof, you can expect this professional to protect your investment with a workmanship warranty. This is an assurance to homeowners that the work performed atop your home meets certain standards. One of these standards pertains to the durability of the newly-installed shingles, which should last and protect a specified number of years. If problems such as leaks occur, your Orange County roofer is contractually bound to rectify the situation. No iffs, ands, or buts.

There is, however, another kind of warranty not provided by a commercial roofer or residential roofer. That warranty is the kind offered by manufacturers of roofing materials.  It doesn’t matter if your shingles are made of asphalt, wood, or cotton candy, reputable manufacturers will cover them with a warranty.

These days, roofing material warranties stretch quite a distance, with the vast majority being a lifetime warranty. Generally speaking, this extensive coverage period applies until you move from your home. Since the average homeowner remains in his or her residence for about seven years, this by definition is the typical period covered by materials warranties.

Bear in mind, however, that warranties of this type invariably include certain exclusions, contingencies, and qualifications. For instance, if a leak develops, some manufacturers cover only the section in which the opening has formed. Additionally, you may need legal training to decipher the clutter of jargon packed into many warranties. Nevertheless, in the long run, manufacturer warranties generally are a great big plus for homeowners

If you have questions about warranties for roofing materials, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. After earning the necessary credentials, a roofer trainee typically is ready for work. But recent graduates aren’t thrown to the wolves right off the bat. Some experience must be gained before they’re ready for the big leagues. Generally, newcomers will start off light, perhaps performing tasks such as carrying tools. Which Roofing Material Takes the Prize?

Decisions, decisions. You’ve made up your mind to replace your roof. But you’re still not sure which material is best. There are so many out there. While an Orange County roofer can help you narrow down the selection, the ultimate decision still falls on your shoulders. It’s not like choosing among ice cream flavors. The potential consequences are much more far-reaching. So, you wonder which way to turn. Well, take heart. You can make the task less burdensome by knowing a little something about what’s out there. Once you gain the enlightenment, you’ll have a better idea of what fits your home and your situation. Then it’s just a matter of picking the best match.

Asphalt is one of the most common materials installed by Orange County roofers. In fact, most people select shingles of this type. There’s good reason for the popularity. Asphalt shingles are cost-effective and durable, an unbeatable combination when it comes to roofing materials. This sturdiness is assured by a fiberglass matting reinforced by a coating of granules. You can be certain that a roof covered by asphalt will stand up to weather, debris, and virtually all other harmful elements.

Like homeowners, business owners often prefer asphalt shingles. As a result, many a commercial roofer uses this material when performing a roof replacement.

Once used almost exclusively for commercial buildings, metal roofing is steadily gaining acceptance by homeowners. Often composed of recycled materials, this type of lightweight roof offers environmental benefits, as well as excellent durability and weather-resistance.

If you have questions about roofing materials, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. Good as Copper

A qualified Orange County roofer certainly can have an impact on roof performance. This expert’s contribution, of course, typically comes in the form of repair or replacement. But a roofer also can make an aesthetic contribution to your dwelling. One of the most common ways is by installing copper rain gutters. Sturdy and efficient, copper gutters are undeniably eye-catching.  Will they improve drainage? Not significantly. Rain water flows just as smoothly through any garden variety gutter. Copper, however, goes one better by lending a strikingly stylish accent to a home’s exterior. The site of a house trimmed in copper can be quite impressive. In terms of impact, the metal is right up there with stunning landscaping and wood accents.

Remember, copper rain gutters needn’t be limited to residential structures. Many is the commercial building utilizing this option. Therefore, copper rain gutters may be provided by both a residential roofer and commercial roofer. No matter what type of building is to be serviced, a qualified Orange County roofing company can offer a suitable solution in line with budgetary parameters.

Is there any special maintenance required by copper rain gutters? Not a great deal. There is one issue, however, that both homeowners and business owners will have to address. That is the issue of oxidation. This process invariably impacts copper, giving the meatal a greenish hue. Some homeowners don’t mind the alteration, as the color change jibes with the antique look of their house. If, however, you prefer a pure metallic sheen, an Orange County roofer can protect copper rain gutters with a special sealant.

If you have questions about copper rain gutters, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. A Sunny Business Solution

When an Orange County roofer installs a skylight atop a commercial building, this professional is doing more than suppling increased illumination. Of course, you say, the roofing expert also is providing a great view of the deep blue sky (assuming rain clouds have not gathered). True enough. But the other benefit resulting from the installation of a skylight is a potential increase in business performance. How exactly can this rooftop window make a difference to the bottom line? Well, there are several ways.

First, there’s the mood enhancement principal. When a commercial roofer installs a skylight on a business structure, the admitted sunlight has a positive effect on everyone inside. This is difficult to dispute. Ample research suggests that light from our nearest star generally has a cheering effect on people. The sunlight phenomenon has a special significance for workers. Bathed in solar illumination, staff members are more inclined to feel upbeat and positive. Stimulated in this way, employees are more likely to feel energized. Increased productivity often is the favorable result. Additionally, ample sunshine enhances visibility. This benefit is particularly important in a retail environment, where clearly-seen merchandise is more likely to grab attention.

Who should consider the installation of a skylight? Good candidates are those who own or operate a commercial building in a busy Orange County city, such as Irvine. Simply contact an Irvine commercial roofer (or appropriate professional for your city) to get a detailed overview of benefits and other pertinent information. It very well may be the first step to an unexpected business windfall.

If you have questions about getting a skylight for a commercial building, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. You Could Be Offering a Feast to Roof Termites

As an Orange County roofing company, we know that wooden roof shingles are vulnerable to termite invasion. Once those uninvited guests slip inside, it takes professional experts get them out. Fortunately, homeowners can take several preventative measures to keep termites away. But why take the word of this commercial roofing contractor? Here are first-hand insights straight from the source.

Hi, I’m a termite. I eat wood … anytime, anywhere. And that means all the way up on your roof if that’s where the feast is. Love those wooden roof shingles!  Except when they’re painted. Me and the gang just won’t penetrate painted wood. Never have. Never will. So if you want us out, coat those wooden shingles with paint. And no cracks or peels. Those are open doorways.

Remember, we’re always scouting for prospects. So the last thing you should do is give us an open invitation. You know, those piles of lumber, firewood, tree branches, and shrubberies sitting in your yard. We’ll be on them in a nanosecond! And once we land, we look for more easy pickins – like wooden roof shingles.

Oh yeah, if you have an attic, cover all the vents and windows with screens. Never been a termite yet that could penetrate one of those. Well, that’s it for now. Just saw a pile of lumber, and I haven’t had lunch.

Luckily, these preventative measures can steer termites away from your rooftop. But if they ever do cause damage to your roof, get the advice of a qualified Orange County roofing contractor.

If you have questions about roof termites or are considering roof repairs or upgrades, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. A long-established commercial roofing contractor, we provide prompt, reliable expertise for every need and situation. Rooftop Halloween

Why should kids be the only ones with the Halloween look? Homes have a lot to say about the holiday, too. Which means holiday decorations for the home are in order. Lots of good places to plant those pumpkins, witches, and spiders. But if you’re planning rooftop decorations, this Orange County roofer recommends you give those shingles and planks a good checkup. You want everything safe and secure before going to work.

If you feel up to it, grab a ladder and conduct your own roof surveillance. Things to look out for are signs of weakness and excessive wear. Once you’re aloft hanging pumpkin lights, you don’t need surprises. Of course, if you want complete assurance, you might want to call in a commercial roofer. They have the tools and expertise necessary to uncover any and all flaws.

Once you’ve confirmed roof stability, it’s time to get the show on the road. You’ll save precious time by getting the entire load on the roof – tools and decorations – before beginning.  Everything in easy reach. If you’ll be hanging light strings, consider using LED bulbs. These consume a fraction of the energy used by conventional incandescent bulbs. And that can mean major savings, depending on how long those glowing pumpkins stay lit.

Speaking of lights, consider using a spotlight to illuminate any Halloween scene haunting your rooftop.  People will see it for miles. Who knows what that could do for your standing in the community. Anyway, the main thing is to get creative and have fun. Happy Halloween from Luke Roofing!

If you have questions about preparing your roof for Halloween decorations, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. A long-established commercial roofing contractor, we provide prompt, reliable expertise for every need and situation. Have the Coolest Roof in Town

The recent heat waves remind all of us that hot weather is a year-round fact of life in Southern California. Which means most of us will be looking for ways to keep cool during those hot stretches, even during Fall and Winter.  In our experience as an Orange County Roofer, one of the best places to start is above – your roof.  That’s right. Certain kinds of roofs actually contribute to cooler indoor temperatures.

Metal roofs, for instance, are excellent temperature controllers. That’s because they have a natural tendency to remain cool. The secret of metal roofs is their ability to reflect sunlight, thereby sending solar heat away from your home. With less heat penetrating your home, the interior temperatures invariably drop.

While metal roofs are often pricier than those made of other materials, they offer tremendous long term benefits in the form of lower energy bills. They’re also more durable than average, meaning you won’t be replacing them so often.

Roof color has a similar impact on domestic temperature control. White or light color materials are by far the optimal choice. As with metal roofs, these shades best reflect sunlight and thereby dramatically reduce surface temperatures. For this reason, lighter shade roofs are known as ‘cool roofs’.

Many a commercial roofer also favors shingles or tiles for keeping roof temperatures cool. It’s not that these materials are naturally low temperature. It’s the special factory coating applied to shingles and tiles. The coating reflects sunlight in a similar way that metal and light colored materials do.

If you have questions about keeping rooftops cool or are considering roof repairs or upgrades, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. A long-established commercial roofer, we provide prompt, reliable expertise for every need and situation. Offering roofing services from Laguna Niguel to Anaheim and beyond, Luke Roofing is your trusted Orange County roofing contractor.

Get Smart About Roof Leaks

Perhaps it starts with a steady drip plopping onto your forehead as you settle into your sofa. Or maybe you notice a small, widening puddle soaking your carpet when it rains. (You remember rain, don’t you?).  Whatever the signs, roof leaks spell big trouble. As this Orange County roofer knows, however, you can minimize the trouble if you have advance warning. With that in mind, here are three possible causes of roof leaks to be on the lookout for.

Missing Shingles

Not too difficult to spot this telltale sign. Just glance at your roof, scan, and look for different-colored patches amidst the shingles. If patches are present, it’s a sure bet shingles used to occupy those spaces. The typical cause of missing shingles is harsh weather, particularly rain and wind.

Open Valleys

On sloping roofs, the place where two planes meet is called a valley.  This meeting point, of course, must be properly sealed. If gaps are present, rainwater can drop right through. Look for any signs of moisture along the roof seams. These indicate improper sealing.

Most often, the open valley problem starts when the original sealing is improperly done.  And it only gets worse from there. Obviously, you want a commercial roofer who gets the job done right from the beginning.

Skylight Gaps

Sometimes skylights can let in moisture along with the sunshine. This can happen as a result of shoddy installation or withering skylight insulation.  If you notice damp spots around the skylight edges, you’re probably looking at leakage. At that point, it’s best to call in a commercial roofer to investigate. Unless you love the steady plunk of water filling a bucket.

If you have questions about roof leaks, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. A long-established commercial roofing contractor, we provide prompt, reliable expertise for every need and situation. Offering roofing services from Buena Park to Foothill Ranch, Luke Roofing is your trusted Orange County roofer.

Steer Clear of Siding Trouble

Siding makes a huge contribution to a home’s overall appearance. But as this Orange County roofer knows, it also has a more basic function – protecting properties from the unwanted entry of water. Siding, of course, is like any other part of your house – it’s subject to normal wear and tear. Along with lowering your home’s aesthetic appeal, such deterioration invites leakage, especially near windows, doors, and corner moldings. Fortunately, homeowners can steer clear of trouble by conducting their own siding inspection. Here’s what to look for:

Caulk – Time can be brutal to caulk. Check yours for cracks or signs of loosening -- both open invitations to water leakage. If you notice either of these warning signs, re-apply caulk as soon as possible. For best results, choose a warm, dry day. Caulk adheres best when temperatures exceed 65 degrees.

Cracks and Chips – Both are very common with siding that’s past its prime. For wood, telltale signs are chipped or peeling paint, as well as cracks in boards and trim. This applies whether the material is pine, spruce, cedar, redwood, or fir. Equally vulnerable is stucco, which can develop its own cracks and chips over time.

Brick Siding – The big giveaway here is crumbling mortar joints. If you see evidence of this deterioration, repairs will be necessary.

Good News for Homeowners

A thorough cleaning can help preserve siding, thereby saving homeowners from premature repair and replacement costs. Basic equipment for the job is a bucket of warm, soapy water, and a scrub brush. Once the scrubbing begins, commercial roofers generally recommend going from bottom to top. This prevents streaking. Depending on your siding’s square footage, the cleansing job can take one or two afternoons. So don’t plan on going anywhere for awhile.

If you have questions about home siding, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. A long-established commercial roofing contractor, we provide prompt, reliable expertise for every need and situation. Turkeys on the Roof

For most of us this Thanksgiving, the next turkey we see will be hot and piping on the dinner table. Some people, however, actually will witness these birds roaming their neighborhood. These are wild turkeys, which more and more are finding their way into suburban communities. Not that Orange County is due for a visit any time soon. Nevertheless, as every Orange County roofing company firmly believes, homeowners should be prepared for everything. So with that in mind, here’s what to do if a pack of wild turkeys ever do roost on your roof.

The general idea here is to persuade the uninvited turkeys to relocate. First of all, you should know that the average urban turkey tends to select treetops over roofs when it comes to roosting spots. If branch space is limited, however, to the rooftops they may go. Once the birds are atop your home, don’t expect subtlety. Wild turkeys are known noisemakers.

Fortunately, you won’t need a commercial roofing contractor to rid yourself of the trespassers. Wild turkeys might sound fearsome, but they’re actually fairly easy to discourage. A little spray from the garden hose often is enough to send them packing. If that doesn’t work, try again. Eventually, they should get the message. And just in case the water treatment doesn’t do the trick, homeowners can utilize anti-perching devices such as bird wire.

Of course, as earlier stated, wild turkeys probably won’t be roaming the local streets any time soon. But as this Orange County roofing contractor has learned, you never know. Happy Thanksgiving!

Roofing Trends to Get Excited About

When you’re an Orange County roofer, you’ve got to be in tune with the roofing trends. Imagine, providing roofing services in Irvine or any other city, and not knowing what the latest and greatest is. Wouldn’t give homeowners much confidence, would it? Fortunately, we at Luke Roofing keep tabs on what’s ahead so we’re always a leader, not a follower. For those who are curious about what’s around the corner in our industry, here are four trends currently on the radar of this commercial roofer.

Asphalt Shingles Rule

Expect the popularity of asphalt shingles to continue climbing. Topping the list is laminate asphalt, primarily because of its durability. Composite shingles also are proving very popular, particularly those incorporating cooling granules. Though tiny, these granules do a big job of improving the energy efficiency of rooftops.

Reflect on This

By reflecting sunshine away from a home, reflective roof coatings help minimize heat buildup on roof surfaces. The windfall, of course, is a cooler, more comfortable interior during hot summer months.

Cool Colors

As with reflective coatings, lighter hues send the sun’s rays away from your roof and keep your home cooler. Among the effective, sun-repelling colors are off white, silver, and light gray.

Green is Always In

With energy efficiency a top priority these days, Orange County roofers such as Luke Roofing expect more green technology to find its way into roofing materials. Current possibilities include photovoltaic roofing systems, tile solar roofing, solar shingles, and photovoltaic modules.  These materials generally are suitable for both existing rooftops and brand new ones.

If you have questions about current roofing trends, be sure to reach out to Luke Roofing. A long-established commercial roofing contractor, we provide prompt, reliable expertise for every need and situation. Whether you need roofing services in Irvine, Tustin or anywhere else in OC, Luke Roofing is your trusted Orange County roofer.

5 Ways to Upgrade Your Roof

Whether you’re replacing or renovating your roof, you might be ready for some upgrades. Roofing upgrades, when installed by a licensed Orange County roofing contractor, can not only add to the value of your home, but also make it more comfortable and energy-efficient. And we don’t just mean spending thousands moving from asphalt shingles to clay tiles. You can actually take smaller steps to upgrade your roof, including these five options:

1.Improve the ventilation

One of the best ways to improve the overall efficiency of your home, especially in warm climates like ours, is to improve the ventilation in your roof. Proper roof ventilation allows heat to escape out of the roof, rather than collecting in your attic and slowly warming the floors below it.

All too often, roofs aren’t properly ventilated when a home is built. This causes the attic to act as a furnace when the weather is warm, adding to your cooling costs. To keep your attic cooler, as your Orange County roofer to add soffit vents. These vents go in the soffits under the eaves, and draw cooler air into the attic. Then a vent in the top of the roof allows hot air at the peak to escape. This ensures airflow through the attic, keeping it at a cooler temperature when the weather gets hot.

2.Add insulation

Another option for adding to the efficiency of your home is to add insulation to your roof or attic. The easiest option here is blown-in insulation - a thick layer of the stuff on the attic floor. Talk to your roofer about other possible ways to add insulation that will keep the attic’s heat from warming up the rest of the house.

One possible caveat here: make sure the insulation doesn’t negate your ventilation efforts. You may need to use shields or ducts to hold back the insulation around vents, so that it doesn’t block up the vents and render them useless.

3.Opt for lower-maintenance gutters

If you’re replacing your roof, why not go ahead and look at the gutters, as well? If your existing gutters aren’t properly aligned or just need a color change and upgrade, opt for a lower-maintenance option. The latest gutters include built-in hoots, which make them practically maintenance-free. With hoods to keep debris out of the gutters, you won’t have to worry about cleaning out your gutters a few times a year.

4.Reflect the sun

In sunny SoCal, one of the best choices you can make is a roof that reflects the sun. Reflective options include galvanized metal and light-colored roofing shingles. These materials bounce the sun’s light back away from your home, helping to keep it cool.

There are a myriad of high-efficiency sun-reflecting options on the market today. Talk to your Orange County roofing professional about the options available for your particular roof. This can be one more step to keep your home cool in the hot summers, which can, in turn, add value to your home as a whole.

5.Add some texture

What if you’re looking for a visual upgrade that will boost your home’s curb appeal? The easiest way to achieve this goal with your roof is to move from a flat surface - like a traditional shingle roof - to a surface with some interesting texture. Again, there are plenty of options that will achieve this goal.
